Lunch & Learn: Keeping Tasks on Track

Welcome to our new Lunch & Learn blog series! Once a month, someone at Reliant Studios presents on a topic of their choice to the rest of our team. This series of blog posts will be a compilation of what we've covered in each of these gatherings. Take this journey with us, as we continue to learn from one another!

We’re a small, creative company, which means we have everyone wearing a bunch of different hats. Sometimes I’m the accountant, the marketer, the housekeeper and a project manager all in one day. We have a lot to do to keep all our projects moving, and we love it.

When you have a bunch of creative people with ideas flying left and right, though, keeping things organized may not be everyone’s strong suit. But, [lucky for my team,] “responsibility” and “maximizer” are two of my top Gallup strengths, so I’m naturally determined to (a) make sure nothing falls through the cracks, and (b) find the most efficient way to get everyone on the same page.

Enter: Asana, the world’s greatest task manager a team of folks could ask for (or so my opinion claims).

For my Lunch & Learn, I decided to walk my team through how to use Asana. I began with answering the question, “Why is it even important to track our tasks?” This is such an important question, because everyone should know why you’re using a particular system and how it benefits the work you do.

For us, Asana helps us:

  • Keep all tasks in one place, whether for a client or internal project.

  • Provide due dates for each task.

  • Prioritize tasks.

  • Assign tasks to one person, making them solely responsible for completing it.

  • Avoid dropping the ball on anything, big or small.

  • Allow the Project Manager to know who is working on what.

Since it’s so flexible, we can make Asana work the way we want it to. For us, we’ve developed a project template, that way we don’t forget simple tasks related to each project we do in the future. This template is bothgood for us and good for our clients. It keeps things very efficient, helping our projects run smoothly from beginning to end.

Another important question you may be asking is, “Why does this matter for me?” Well, as your production team, we work for you. Our goal is to handle every detail of a project, giving you the best experience while working with us, as well as a great product for your business or organization.

We may be fun, smart and clever people (you get the idea), but we’re also serious about making the best videos possible, and that means making sure our team is on the same page at all times.

With so much to be done, keeping things moving is all in a day’s work. Thank goodness we have Asana to help us out.
