Before The Build

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our crew traveled to Orlando, FL, teaming up with Homes For Our Troops, to spend a couple days with Army SGT Ret. Patrick Wickens and Army SPC Ret. Michael Monthervil.

Patrick is a Veteran who was wounded in Iraq in May of 2004, which resulted in a right leg hip level amputation and left leg burns. We produced this video to show the daily struggles he and his family face and to demonstrate the great need for an accessible home. Loving the stay-at-home dad responsibilities, Patrick is positively looking to the future when he and his family will thrive in their new specially adapted custom Homes For Our Troops home.

Michael is a Veteran who was wounded in Afghanistan which resulted in a spinal cord injury which caused him to lose the use of both legs. Michael spends countless hours each day maneuvering through his space - hours which could be used for something more productive or enjoyable. Michael and Ashley are both excited to see what the future holds in their new specially adapted custom Homes For Our Troops home.

Homes For Our Troops is a nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post – 9/11 Veterans. These homes enable them to rebuild their lives. Since 2004, Homes For Our Troops has built over 270 specially adapted homes nationwide. Their goal is to build a home for every veteran who qualifies for one of their specially adapted homes. To learn more about how you can help get veterans like Patrick and Michael in to a home sooner, please visit HomesForOurTroops.org.
